So dont delay call us today to see what service is all about Copper Theft on the RISE!!! 08/17/2010
Please note that copper theft is on the rise in Cape Town and surrounding areas. The result can be pinned down to a few elements explained below- - With the economic recession peaking, and with unemployment on the rise people seek an income be it legal or illegal - Drug users looking to get money for the next "fix", this is often the case according to police officials - Copper scrap price has risen slightly giving the vandals/ thieves an incentive - Thieves often get very little for what the steal and will probably do 3 or 4 houses in the area Copper thieves are learning more and more with each and every "job" they complete. For obvious reasons I will not be listing them, but sometime stripping older schools in Cape Town bare from all copper, brass and anything of any scrap value leaving the school and/ or government left with a hefty bill in the end. These thieves have no regard or respect to your property and will do their best to get the most copper for their efforts, sometimes leaving nothing but the broken ends of copper sticking out of the brickwork. Copper thefts can be a costly exercise for any home owner. Places where there is a lot of foot traffic (eyes wonder around and they are always on the look out for copper) or the opposite where there wont be a lot of witnesses and easy access to copper or brass should be safely guarded or removed and replaced with a SABS approved pipe with little or no scrap value. What Areas Do You Work In??? 08/17/2010
Many of our customers tend to ask us what areas we work in??? The answer is usually "um just around here" you would more than likely here from some other plumbing companies in Cape Town. Sounds simple enough, but here is the answer we give - "where do you draw the line when a customer has a burst geyser or a burst pipe and is slightly out of the areas that you usually work- how can you say NO when your companies name and reputation is on the line. The truth is we are always available and ready to attend to any plumbing emergency day, night, morning, evening or even new years eve in ALL AREAS of Cape Town. We set a basic service area radius covering as far as Blouberg, Bellville, Sommerset West all the way down to Simons Town. Our main focus being Cape Town Central, the Atlantic Sea Board and the Southern Suburbs." If you need a plumber to come around when you get home after 5pm to assist with that leaking toilet which is driving you and your partner around the bend, we will be there with a smile on our faces willing to help you at no extra cost - providing prior arrangements have been made with us. CCTV Drain Inspections 07/10/2010
Clyde Bosman Plumbing has recently invested in some state-of-the-art CCTV drain inspection equipment, allowing us to provide a cost effective way of establishing what the cause and source of the blockages are to all our customers. Our rates are very affordable (compared to our other competitors in Cape Town), allowing every single home owner in Cape Town the opportunity of having a full video, photographic and written report on the state of their drains. Our plumbers will be more than willing to show you all footage taken and it can be viewed on site in colour at your request giving us the leading edge when in comes to drain inspections. For all your plumbing needs- look no further, with great prices and great service, it's no wonder why we are the leaders in the plumbing industry. Choosing a plumber is not exactly the easiest task, especially if you have not had good experience in the past. I like to relate choosing a plumber to how we choose a dentist- If you have bad experiences you try and find a new one, but if you find a dentist that is not too bad, you tend to stick with them BUT there here are a few ways help you when choosing a new plumber in Cape Town or any other town/ city for that matter. There are many plumbers out there that charge very little hourly rate but forget to mention their very high "call out fee". Or quite simply are not qualified or competent enough to complete the job quickly, efficiently and in a professional manner. All of our plumbers carry a fully stocked van with the correct tools, equipment and materials to complete most jobs without having to leave your home, hence saving you money and stress. We are VAT registered, insured and qualify for a LEVEL 4 BEE certificate. Here are a few questions to ask when calling a new plumber or plumbing company: 1) What is your charge per hour? 2) Do you have any call out fees or any hidden costs? 3) Are you insured for faulty workmanship? 4) How long has your company been in operation for? 5) Do you offer any forms of workmanship guarantees? If so how long? 6) Do you have any contactable references? If the plumber is still on the phone, and not hot under the collar by the time you have asked the above questions you should be able to gauge a bit more about the company, how the company is run, and what sort of service you can expect from the plumbing company. Geberit- NOT just a pretty face 05/26/2010
This week our plumbers were sent to the Geberit training centre to not only learn about how the systems work, are installed, serviced and applied out in the plumbing industry, but to see the current hype around Geberit and analyse the systems behind its good looks. Every plumber is now up-to-date on the Geberit systems, and can service, install, give you educated advice and an overview of Geberit as a whole. Geberit is an amazing system, not only does it look good, but it is easily installed, easy to service, hygienic, and most importantly water saving. With water becoming more and more scares throughout the world, it is important to realise the impact your toilets water consumption has on the environment and the world around you. A basic break down is given below on a conventional toilet system compared to the Geberit. I'm sure you will agree that Geberit is far superior when it comes to style, water saving and hygiene. Standard Toilet Basic daily usage (3 users) - 135 litres per day - 4050 litres per month - 49 275 litres per year Office block (10 users) - 270 litres per day - 8100 litres per month - 98 550 litres per year Mall/ Shopping centre/ public place (200 users) - 1400 litres per day - 42 000 litres per month - 511 000 litres per year Geberit Toilet Basic daily usage (3 users) 48 litres per day - 1 440 per month - 17 520 litres per year Office block (10 users) 102 litres per day - 3 060 per month - 37 230 litres per year Public place (200 users) 780 litres per day - 23 400 litres per month - 284 700 litres per year The stats speak for themselves and would have an amazing impact on the environment if these units were installed in 20 % of homes, office blocks and shopping malls. Many interior designers and architects are opting to use Geberit as their preferred toilet as it is so designer and environmentally friendly. Geberit has perfected the art of concealed cisterns and all cisterns come with a 10 year guarantee backed up by Geberit itself. ![]() Firstly having a renovation is exciting, but don't let the excitement overcome the realities of having multiple workmen/ tradesmen and artisans working and invading in your personal space! Renovations can be a costly exercise, and very stressful making sure that everything runs like clockwork to meet your deadline and stay within budget... Once you have a clear idea of what sort of bathroom renovation you are thinking of doing, you have to ask yourself, is this going to be worth it? Stress wise, cost and resale at the end of the day... If your answers are yes to these questions the battle is half won. Before calling any tradesmen, grab some paper and make notes (examples below): Sketch some ideas down on a piece of paper. (You don't need to be a Van Gough, something simple and 2d) What sort of finishes you are aiming to achieve Think practically and about the future Now time to get hold of the plumber (We offer free quotes)... There are a few signs that give away what sort of work the plumber will be giving you at the end of the day. For example: 1)Is the plumber prompt and on time? 2)Does it sound like the plumber knows what he is talking about or is he speaking around the point? 3)How do they carry and present themselves? 4)Is their quote professionally presented? 5)How long did it take for the plumber to submit his quote? 6)Does the plumber have any contactable references who you can contact? These are very important things to take note of when deciding which plumber to use for your bathroom renovation. I would rate the above questions out of ten and attach the ratings to their quote. The quality of plumbing is not determined by the price of the quote, but by the plumber who is doing the plumbing! It is very important to try and judge what sort of service and quality of work you will be receiving from the plumber. Going with the cheapest quote could be dangerous especially if you have not rated them using the above guidelines. Try and stay clear of people claiming to do "everything", find someone who specialises in one trade and that trade alone! -Leaking Taps- 03/24/2010
Leaking taps can be a nightmare, and can run up quite a bill come the end of the month. Leaking taps can waste up to 1 000 liters of water during the course of a month, and is very important to ensure that all your taps are drip-free and in good working order. There are two main causes of leaking taps. * Over tightening of the taps, causing abnormal stress to the rubber washer. * Brittle/ cracked rubber washers TOOLS YOU WILL NEED: 1 X Shifting spanner 1 X Phillips/ Flat head screwdriver Tap Washer ESTIMATED TIME TO COMPLETE: 20- 25 MINS STEPS: 1) Identify the leaking taps 2) Switch off your incoming water supply 3) Open the tap ensuring the water is off before you proceed 4) Remove the indicator button (red or blue) to reveal a screw. Sometimes the screws can be found on the side of the taps, depending on the model, and loosen it, being careful not to drop it down the waste. 5) Remove the handle to reveal the brass mechanism 6) Adjust your shifting spanner to the correct size on the mechanism and turn in and anti clockwise direction holding the tap steady with your free hand 7) Inspect the washer for any cracks or foreign matter that could be causing the tap to drip 8) Inspect the washers seating inside the tap, looking for any cracks or foreign matter 9) Remove the nut/ screw holding the washer in place and replace with the new one (different sizes apply and would be best to take your washer down to your local hardware store to match it up 100%) 10) Repeat steps from 1-6 in reverse to complete the washer replacement Have any Suggestions for the DIY section?
